You Are Seen
God heals the brokenhearted,
and binds up all their wounds;
God counts out the number of the stars,
and calls each one by its name.
Psalm 147: 5-7
Last night I had a dream that a lifelong friends’ younger sister sent her little seven year old boy to hug me, I was surprised when I asked why he came, “My mom said you might need a hug.” And he sat on my lap and hugged my neck tight, (like my nephews would do at that age) and he popped off and ran back to his mother and my friend, who were smiling and waving to me as I signed “thank you.”
I needed this dream after the last couple of weeks and it came to mind as I did my morning reading which included this psalm. I’ve been literally heartbroken over how a situation was handled, it left me feeling belittled and abandoned, and questioning my own judgement of people. But in this dream, I felt God saying, “I see you. I know you. I trust you.” It meant everything to me and I woke up in a completely different place both emotionally and spiritually.
That’s the thing that those of us who work for/in the church need to remember; God sees, God knows and God heals. My heart goes out to those whose burdens are so heavy that it breaks them a little, so many of us know what that’s like, and so I hope they know that no matter how much of a struggle life is God sees, God knows and God heals.
As for me, I felt God “bind up all my wounds” in a divinely personal way just through the affection of a child in my dream and the confidence that I can rely on my lifelong friends.
