Tibetan Prayer Flags
“Pray without ceasing”Someone introduced me to the Tibetan Prayer Flag today. It is a clothesline concept with sheets of fabric and Tibetan prayers written on them and the idea is that when the wind blows the prayers are sent out into the world. I love this idea and there is no reason why if you aren’t comfortable with the written prayers why one couldn’t do thier own faiths based prayers. Imagine, all of those prayers in addition to the ones we hold in our hearts and the ones we express in community, how powerful that could be!This would allow us to truly pray without ceasing. If we are trying to make a better world, trying to bring about the kingdom of God, an active role we can have is praying. How desperately our world needs peace. How the earth groans! We are in a season of preparation….praying is the best preparation. Truly embracing “Thy will be done” and treating every child of God with the same compassion and generosity is a way to walk through Advent and arrive renewed. It is a way of preparing the manger. But like Mary and Joseph, we can’t do it alone…we must walk with God if we are to arrive at our desired destination.
