I was just reading an area news headline: “One Full Week Without Measurable Rainfall” THANK YOU GOD! And to anyone who took the time to help pray the rain away. I was trying to prayerfully move the Jetstream…I think it was perfect marriage of science and religion! :)So having had GOOD news and SUN! for one full week has gone a long way to restoring our beleaguered community. This past weekend we got just what the doctor ordered; The Boilermaker Road Race:
|
This is how it started 35 years ago, a 9.3 mi run with a glass of beer at the end….thus began the Boilermaker Road Race |
At the post race party with 20,000 of our closest friends
Elite runners…these women are incredible; 45 minutes in heat and humidity to run 9.3 mi.
The crowds! As much our tradition to cheer them on. This is what makes this race unique. Literally 9.0 of encouragement for anyone who needs it.
My husband ran the 15k for years, it was his tradition. A knee injury has prevented him from running that length for a while. But this year he was able to do the 5k with our eldest daughter. Thanks to unemployment! 🙂
The two runners in the lead, the exciting part. It used to be that I was situated so that I could see the finish line…we have moved up as the group grew. The runners were all but in step with each other.
It is so exciting. Under 44 minutes.
In the meantime, all the volunteers, including my middle child, are busy working away to make sure that this is the best experience and best representation of the Mohawk Valley. Even though we had been flooded just days before, everything in sight was clean (we are in a more impoverished part of the city here though), flowers were tended and spirits were high. So proud to live here.
So grateful too for the gift of community prayer! There are some incredible stories to share with you about this race but that will have to wait. For now, I am just grateful it all worked out. Thank you again!
A couple of these images were taken from Google images…thanks to whoever!
Annette, I’m so glad that everything went well. That reminds me of Calgary, Alberta where they suffered greatly from floods this summer but they all pitched in and the Calgary Stampede was able to be held. Community is so important.
Prayers continue for employment for your husband. Blessings.
