Pope Retiring?!
It is hard to know what to say about this. I am conflicted in as much as I am very pleased and have a great deal of respect for the decision that this Pope has made. I want to think it is a good and honest one. I believe it is drawn from humility…I will only try to believe what is good. This is a great theologian and a great disciple of Christ, and though we don’t always see eye to eye, I have always believed that his convictions come from a place of prayer. Likewise, his decision to retire shows that his heart is first and foremost focused on what is best for the church. In fairness to the Pope, times have changed so dramatically that the role he has to play must be redefined. But consider this redefinition that is happening. So little time to think, to consider. But the things that have been happening in our church need to be addressed now…hard to wrap your head around the sense of urgency when it’s so new. It is hard for me almost 40 years his junior to keep up, I could not imagine he could to the standard that he holds for himself. He is, afterall, a wonderful theologian, a brilliant thinker but from a time when there was time. I am sad for him, but I am hopeful for us. Now our work is to let the Holy Spirit to it’s work. Let the Holy Spirit breathe it’s life back into our church. Pray, pray, pray for a leader who can connect with his people. Pray for Pope Benedict too. For more, and there will be more and more and more and more…no doubt…here is a blogpost.http://cnsblog.wordpress.com/2013/02/11/pope-benedict-citing-age-announces-he-will-resign/
Yes, let’s pray for Pope Benedict and the Church!
