“Voices From the Edge”

I am in the midst of revisiting Anthony Ciorra’s 1995 book Everyday Mysticism it is one of those books that I have stared at for years at the wonderful monastery I visit, Mount Saviour Monastery in Elmira, NY.  A couple of years back, a friend gave it to me…which was good cause I could never…

Prayer For the Frustrated Catholic

Well, it’s true. I will not deny it.  Fr. James Martin is a spiritual hero of mine and when you read the prayer below you will see why.  http://www.americamagazine.org/blog/entry.cfm?blog_id=2&entry_id=5169Let us live in hope for a better tomorrow and let us always remember to turn toward God in our distress.

Just Deal!

Below is an article from Commonweal blog about the latest censure of a female theologian Sr. Margaret Farley author of Just Love.  Personally, with this particular hierarchy, I would feel like I was walking on the right side of the street if I were being censured.  There are some issues I can understand being brought…

Happy Memorial Day

The best way to thank those who have fought for our freedom is to live our freedom in love, honor and compassion.  Remember those young veterans (young and old alike) who have to come home and are trying to remember who they used to be.  Please hold in your prayers all of those who are…

Pentecost

With it being Memorial Day weekend (in America), I am sure that most people won’t be thinking about Pentecost this Sunday.  But I wish they would since it really is such an important moment in all of our Catholic lives.  Not only is it the birthday of the church, but most importantly it is when…

Abortion Issue

Deeply, deeply touched by this blog post on Patheos.  My heart breaks for her pain and I praise her courage.  Self-forgiveness is the hardest forgiveness which is one of the points I try to make when talking about abortion.  This is the position we should be taking, not the hateful, unforgiving stances.  We need to…

Cup or Chalise

Below is an article from Commonweal Magazine that discusses a bit more about the new translation, I am really glad we are not just letting this go.  We need to be the voice in the church, we need to stand up and stop just letting things happen without any interest about what it means to…

Cookies My Aunt Betty!

Thank you Bishops!  My own experience with three children being GS didn’t expose me to thier subversive side, but I am grateful you will!  Ok, sorry!  I am a little miffed.  This article blows me away. Of all the things that we could be doing, and should be doing, this is what the USCCB has…

Need a Prayer/Say a Prayer

We pray for all of those who are in the path of climate destruction. Especially the innocent who have no power in effecting change.

We pray for our world, for those who flee war and injustice, for those who cause it and for our children.

For those who are exposed or suffering from the Coronavirus/RSV and Flu

For healthcare workers and those who put themselves in the service of others.

For an end to racism and anti-Semitism.

For Mark

For the people of Ukraine.

For an immediate end to gun violence.

For our children, that they can have confidence int the adults charged with their care.

For those suffering in the Middle East.

For healing for Anita.

In gratitude for Juliana.

For all of those who ask us to pray for them.
