No News is Good News
“I cannot do anything on my own; I judge as I hear, and my judgement is just, because I do not seek my own will but the will of the one who sent me.” John 5:30When I read these words, it makes me remember the number of times that Jesus tells us that what is primary to him is the work of his father, and obedience to the one who sent him. Jesus always, always puts God first. He does nothing to glorify himself and everything to turn the hearts of the people back to God. I know I am saying nothing new, but I find it worth reminding myself that what sets Jesus apart from everyone else, to me, is not so much his “saviorhood,” but rather his perfect obedience to his father. How much we can learn from his obedience. Who is he the hardest on? Clearly, the ones in power. I would imagine it is because they are convinced that they are heaven bound and in the meantime keep everyone else on their toes following the rules and regulations while they ignore the true essence of God’s words. They show little mercy, compassion or forgiveness. They have grown so accustomed to their own voices that they can no longer hear the voice of God.
I think this in important because all of us are in some position of power and if we don’t understand that even Jesus deferred to God, we will surely miss the boat. What Jesus is saying, in essence, is that he is not letting his own perception or perspective cloud his judgement, therefore it is just. He seeks the will of God.
What a different world it would be indeed if we all sought the will of God in our own judgements.
I think in this techno age where we have access 24/7 to news and all that happens in the world it is ever easier for us to think we have the whole story, and then easier still to pass judgement. To me, and for me, this is a slippery slope. I have to frequently remind myself to ask the unanswered questions, consider the source and if necessary look for more information. Where is the will of God in all of this?
Today, I pray for the wisdom of discernment. I pray that I not allow myself to get sucked into all of the showboating that is considered “news”. I pray for for a way to break the news cycle to make a way to a more peaceful world as I believe that is the will of God.
This is totally awsome!!!
