My Friend Rob
Many of you know that Rob Bell has given me a lot to think about over the years. I support his ministry, (or rather I embrace his heresy haha) because I believe that right or wrong he is seeking the truth of what it means to be a Christian. But he has ticked people off ever since Velvet Elvis where he suggested that being a Christian was more than going to church and knowing your Bible. He made few new friends in Jesus Wants to Save the Christians (because look at the title)…he has come to challenge the evangelical and status quo Christian. Not a bad idea, I’d say.I mention this because I have used his books and videos in my groups since I have been doing groups. He is not Catholic but I really am not overly concerned with that because he has a deep rooted love for God and he is eager to share it. However, as will be, some have taken umbridge with his thrology or delivery or popularity and have deemed him as the “wolf in sheeps clothing”…I just don’t see it. But there are videos and blogs all over that are determined to “expose” him. Interesting, I think, because his main message is that God loves us right where we are. His approach reminds me of the way that Jesus talked to people, he tells stories to get his point accross…much like parables. But just to make sure that nothing had changed since the last time I looked him up, I did it again. There he was, simply telling it as he saw it with a whole lot of information to back him up. Now, I am not saying that we should all become members of Mars Hill Church, but if he is bringing people to Christ, why is that wrong? I believe that Jesus will work in people’s lives as Jesus sees fit. I believe he did in before he was crucified and that he would do that now. So why can’t we trust Jesus. Why is Rob’s message so scary when it focusses on the two most important commandments; loving God and loving your neighbor? Below is an interview or two so you can see a bit of what I mean. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3036789/vp/42148518%2342148518#42148518
