Looking for Love
“Seek the Lord while he may be found, call him while he is near.” Isaiah 55: 6
Isaiah, what a wonderful man!! Where would we be without him?
As I finish the first week of Lent I am sure that God is near. Moreover, I believe if I continue to seek him, God will stay near. The Lord may be found in so many places. I find myself asking often, is this of God? Be it a tv show, a news story or a person with whom I am engaged in conversation, my blog is focusing me more and more to seek out God in all things. Is this the point of Lent in the end? To draw us so deeply into the heart of God that we seek God out in all things? Think of how that changes the way we perceive the world. If I am walking around looking for God than the person that takes my place in line or whatever irritation of the moment, has far less impact on me…I am looking for God.
Rob Bell, in his book Velvet Elvis, talks about being on Holy ground. The idea is that we know when we are taking part in something outside us, something holy and we should revere it and savor it, because it is a gift. I believe that what Jesus did for us was to make God ever present to us. For Catholics, it is in the gift of the Eucharist. But not only the Eucharist with the big E, but the eucharist with a small “e” (I borrow from a book whose author I don’t have handy). If we are in fact, the body of Christ then God is ever present to us. We simply need to look at each other on a soul level. Perhaps if we did that, we would find there was more genuine happiness in the world, maybe there would be no need for laugh tracks or overused words like “awesome”, we wouldn’t have to walk around trying to convince ourselves…we would be convinced. We would want to be part of the engine that brings peace, and in bringing about peace, we are again bringing about the kingdom of God.
Today, I pray for the focus to continue to seek God, to ask for the ability to discern what is of God and to wade through the muck in our world calling on him with the certainty that God is near.
