Happy Father’s Day
I am always amazed at the selflessness of good fathers. But I am not so sure I was aware of the concept of fatherhood being a “hidden” life since growing up, your father is so important. It has been in watching my own excellent husband as he has developed and continues to develop in his fatherhood that I can now appreciate what that hiddeness means. In my own life it means the daily giving of himself to us. It is the way he strives for excellence at work, getting my garden situated, or carting children from one activity to another and still having time to be playful. It is the way that he quietly guides us and keeps us in our safe place. The way he is always looking to the future and trying to ensure that these four women he has been charged with can be happy. He is always giving. Almost too much. So today, he actually gave to himself and he went fishing on the kayak that we got him last Father’s Day. This made us all very happy.I also sat with a friend of mine yesterday who is going through a divorce. He has a young daughter who he is doing everything to ensure experiences a happy and stable life. He has completely turned himself over to her. It is a beautiful thing to watch. So on this Father’s Day, I pray for all Fathers. Their job is not easy but he admiration and love that they get from those who are in their charge is a good recompense. Below is a great video that I may have posted during Advent about Joseph. I always pray to St. Joseph to guide my husband….and so far so good!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gm1rUs39XWY
Well I thought I had the best husband ever – but now I’m thinkin’ that Billy might be (grin)! Still I wish we could have a special place where we hold up these great fathers (and there are a couple here that would rank up there with Billy and Paul) and say to the rest of the deadbeats out there – “THIS IS HOW YOU DO IT!” Still Paul – I know – has learned lessons over the years from Our Father – who definitely knows how to lead without pushing and love without smothering. We are sooooooo blessed! Aren’t you glad it turned out this way?
