Happy Birthday to My Boy!
My husband always told me he was a simple man. I have finally come to believe that although he is anything but simple, he finds joy in the simple things. Today is his 50th Birthday. We will celebrate with a rum cake from his favorite bakery and with some family surrounding him. No big party. No major gift. Just the pure love and admiration of the people who know him best.
These are the things he enjoys:
Me. He really seems to enjoy his wife and all the squirrelly thoughts that I share with him.
His girls. I would say he enjoys them more than me but that is only because there are three of them. Oh, and because they are pretty alright! 😉
The woods. He is a nature boy through and through and he should have been a park ranger instead of an IT Manager. But…you know…what did any of us really know in the 80’s?
Beer. He likes beer but doesn’t drink it as often as he may need to. Because he also likes…
Good health. He is a walker, worker, runner, diyer, paddler, camper, hiker etc. (he loves activity!) partially because he knows it is good for his health. Which is great because a half a century in, he is doing pretty well!!
Science Fiction. We really only have the Original Star Trek in common so it is a good thing his eldest enjoys some of this stuff!
Sports. It is the height of maturity that he does not feel the need to live and breathe sports considering how much he enjoys them.
Nature. Oh I said that.
Doing things the long hard way. I think he really enjoys this. He will take umbridge but I think he is a “process” person. He gets joy in the “doing”.
Learning. He is a pretty smart cookie, even by Knauth standards. (Few will get that reference!!)
What I enjoy about him.
His kindness. He is genuinely kind. My mother makes fun of me because I say “He’s a good boy” and he is. I mean it. She agrees by the way.
His love for his family. We are so blessed.
His humor. He makes me laugh a lot. I mean a lot. I would love to write a script with him.
His dreams. He is a dreamer in many ways. He lets me dream. It is good.
His hands. They are strong, hard working but gentlemanly. They are one of my favorite features.
His mind. And I’m not just saying that…bahahah
His patience. OY! The man is so patient.
But mostly, I enjoy sharing his life. Raising our children, running our lives together. I am grateful that when the deer eat my gladiolus he gets angry. Everyone needs someone like that to have your back. Someone who understands dumb things like the importance of gladiolus. I am so grateful that I remember his 19th birthday and that we get to share today. I want nothing more than to grow old with him. May God grant it!
Happy Birthday to my beloved simple man. May God continue to show us what is good in the world through your loving example.
May you have many, many more…with me! 😀
