Blessed
Today we had the 2nd meeting of our Wednesday Morning Book Group. The song that was used for prayer repeated the lines “I am blessed” followed by “I am grateful”. What a wonderful way to walk through the world repeating those things to yourself. I find I am thanking God in various situations that perhaps might otherwise make me grouse. I am growing weary of winter and it’s cold and snow…but I am thanking God because I know that when Spring does come, the Lilacs will be more fragrant. It also gives me a little more time to start the indoor planting. I thank God for winter when I can slow down a little and not have to drink in every moment of fun or sun or activity! I thank God for winter when I can watch and re-watch Collin Firth in Pride and Prejudice and reread Ethan Frome and the Laura Ingalls Wilder series. They all give me perspective. For example, I am grateful that we have enough wood and indoor heat and plumbing and more than one potato per person. So in this time of mild impatience as the weather works itself out, I hope to take the opportunity to gather my thoughts, to take time in prayer and to understand how much I really have. Being closed up when it is 0 degrees with 3 active and creative kids might wear on me after a while but I will always have this time in my memory. So today’s prayer is one of gratitude and thankfulness…for anyone who is actually out there interested in this blog and for being here writing it. It is a very self-indulgent thing sometimes and I am blessed by it!
