There is a lot on the social media feed about Gov. Cuomo’s State of the State especially for education. My daughter, who was able to attend yesterday, said that the entire house went silent when he talked of education. The entire place. 300 high schooler’s in addition to everyone else. That should send a signal. But to hear the message in the silence one has to listen closely.Likewise, the Catholic Church gets some silence from corners when we address the issues that face dwindling number of Priests. So many of these affected communities are rural but alive and vibrant and following the rules of the church they simply have no Priest at the helm and so face closure. Complete and utter waste and nonsense in my eyes…and sin… because we are impeding the ability of people to be one with God through the Eucharist. We quibble (and despite the lofty declarations from the powers that be of this being “impossible”, it is still quibbling) about whether someone has a “right” to serve as they feel God and community has called them. We barely speak of charisms and when we do it is as though they aren’t gifts/directives from God. Perhaps the article below gives a little insight to this. For the Sake of the Priesthood…
