On Tragedy Overload

Oklahoma is not OK.It is another week with another story that makes me drop to my knees and pray for all those who have to bear a ridiculous amount of pain.People wonder why I pray so much.  I pray because it is my lifeline.  I pray because I believe it changes things,  I believe that because I have been blessed enough to see it with my own eyes, many times. I pray because I believe in miracles…so I keep praying.  And I hope it helps.My God is not Santa Claus or a puppeteer of sorts.  Instead my God is the only place that I can turn for comfort and consolation.   I do not believe that God brings destruction and illness…I just don’t.  Mine is a New Testament God, a God of the new Covenant, the Covenant that we celebrated on Pentecost Sunday.  When I turn to my Lord for comfort…it heals me.  My anxiety leaves…and I am consoled.  I know that this is difficult for some people to understand and I get why but it is the solitary truth of my life. Oklahoma is not OK, today….and it won’t be tomorrow.  But I heard some striking faith affirmations in some of the interviews and I believe they will be.  But they need you and me.  They need us as the people of the living God to breathe strength and life into their community.  “What eye has not seen, and ear has not heard,
  and what has not entered the human heart,
what God has prepared for those who love him,
this God has revealed to us through the Spirit.
For the Spirit scrutinizes everything, even the depths of God.” 1Cor 2:9
